My first taste of Italion food came about when I was 8 years old. My family was from the south and believed in pure meat and potatoes. My parents split up and we moved into an apartment right across from my brother and his wife. The neighborhood was full of different people from different countries. My first friend was Debbie DeMario. She invited me to dinner and a sleep over and we had baked ziti. I was hooked and loved this strange food. Everyday I would go over and get my friend and the smell from her kitchen window was pure heaven. I was invited to her house so many times to experience other dishes but ziti will remain my favorite.

The reason I am telling you all of this is that last week I made for the first time a homemade marinara sauce, to go with my grilled chicken parmesean. Now my grandfather is a grumpy man with many health issues that he feels can be cured with all fast food, and my Mom is very picky about the food she eats.
